We wish to bring to your attention a dangerous situation that may cost your federation your vote.
FIDE or the Kirsan campaign may ask you to complete a “proxy form” (see samples below) before the August 2014 FIDE elections in Tromsø, Norway. BE CAREFUL: Once you sign and send back a proxy form, you will lose your vote permanently as proxies cannot be revoked. Based on the electoral rules, the time for completing and sending proxies is as of 15 July (09:00 Athens time).
Please help our team make sure that the 2014 FIDE elections are fair and transparent:
- Don’t fill out any proxy forms that you may receive from FIDE/Kirsan campaign before 15 July (09:00 Athens time).
- If you have already received a proxy form from FIDE/Kirsan campaign, please let us know immediately. ([email protected])
- If you receive a proxy form from FIDE/Kirsan campaign before 15 July (09:00 Athens time), please let us know immediately.
The electoral rules on proxies are complicated (you can read them here). In short:
On 14 July at 17:00 Athens time the FIDE Secretariat will publish on the FIDE website the final list of delegates eligible to vote in the 2014 FIDE elections.
From 15 July (09:00 Athens time) to 28 July (17:00 Athens time), proxies can be filled out to give your vote to another federation’s delegate on the list that FIDE will publish on 14 July. Proxies must be dated and sent in during this time period only.
Once you assign a proxy, it overrules your
own delegate’s vote and it cannot be revoked.
